A Zip Through the Trees

The three-hour glide-and-slide adventure along cables known as zip lines simulates flying and is powered by gradual elevational changes. The tour takes visitors through multiple ecosystems well above the forest floor and includes informative and historical narration by “canopy rangers.”
The half-mile course crosses 22 acres, from platform to platform via 9 zip lines, three “sky bridges” and five transfer bridges. State-of-the-art equipment includes a helmet, full body harness, trolley, gloves, and a tether safety line. Instruction precedes the adventure. Nantahala Gorge Canopy Tours takes you through multiple ecosystems, past hemlocks, into hardwoods, and through a deciduous forest packed with native flowering plants such as mountain laurel, dogwood, rhododendron, giant Frazier magnolia, rare umbrella magnolia, silver bells and many more. Your canopy ranger will point out these natural features and will also share with you some of the cultural history of the gorge.
