Horace Kephart: Camping and Woodcraft Presentation

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Next month author George Ellison will offer a slideshow presentation on the life and career of Horace Kephart at the REI in Asheville.

Horace Kephart left his family and professional career to live alone from 1904 - 1907 in a cabin in what is today the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Kephart, who is often referred to as the John Muir of the East, took all he learned in the years he spent living in the wilderness and wrote Camping and Woodcraft. George Ellison's presentation will talk about the making of Camping and Woodcraft, why it has become such a highly esteemed outdoor book, and Kephart's pivotal role in the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The free presentation will be held on 4/13/2012, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. at the REI in Asheville. For more information, and to register, please click here.
