New Video Highlights from Andrews Bald

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

As I mentioned in May 21 post (see below), HikingintheSmokys.com has undergone several changes as a result of my week-long hiking trip in the Smoky Mountains.

The most recent change is the addition of a short video clip showing highlights from our hike to Andrews Bald. You can see the video at the bottom of the trail report located here.

As I also mentioned, I'm working on a wildflower gallery, showing the best Smoky Mountains wildflower photographs from this spring. I hope to have these pages posted in this blog by the end of this week.

Hey Jeff.

Just ran across your smokies.com site and thus the link to this blog. I do alot of solo hiking and solo backcountry fly fishing in our Great Smoky Mountains! Three weeks ago I finished up a 3 day solo trip from Noland Divide trail to Noland Creek Trail to Springhouse Branch to Forney Ridge and thus Andrews Bald. It was an absolutely clear day on Andrews Bald and the views were spectacular! Good job on the smokies site and looking forward to the forum. Happy Hiking.. Mark

Thanks Mark. Gald you like the site.

I have yet to do the Noland Divide Trail - but it's on my list. I've heard that it's a great hike.

If you belong to the Great Smoky Mountains Association, there's a nice article in the current issue of Smokies Life Magazine about fly fishing "The Horseshoe" on Abrams Creek. It sounds like the ultimate fly fishing hole in the Smokies.

Good read - even if you're not a fisherman.

Hi Jeff -- I also just discovered your site and your blog. I was in the Cataloochee area of 4 days over Memorial Day weekend and had outstanding weather and 40+ miles of hiking. My goal is to hike all the trails in the park in one year. Don't laught, I think I can do the hiking, but the logistics are challenging. I have a blog at www.smokyscout.blogspot.com. See you on the trails...Sharon

Hey Jeff,

The "Horseshoe" of Abrams creek is a great place to fly fish. There is a "big" and "little" horseshoe on Abram's. I have fly fished them both with great results! I will make it back one of these days, but there are so many rivers and sooo little time to wet a line in all the streams of the smokies. I'm trying my best though and making good progress!
Mark.....

P.S. Go Sharon!
Wish I had the time I would join you. I will be hiking the 35 mile Lakeshore Trail (and Fly Fishing of course) from the Tunnel to Fontana the first week of October with my brother. Hope to see some of you guys out there....
