Due to its popularity, I thought I would mention that the Great Smoky Mountains website just posted a note that there's now a bear warning for the Laurel Falls Trail. This simply means that a bear, or bears, have been active in the area.

On May 8 2010 my husband and I hiked up to top of Laurel Falls around 4 PM and just past the falls we encountered q large bear right in the middle of the trail. Got great pics before he ran off into the woods.
