must me a helluva calendar...says it costs $999.99. Me thinks there is a decimal error here...

Absolutely - it's an exceptional calendar this year. There's an extra day in there for leap year - thus the increase in price!! :)
I think Amazon cranks up the price when they run out of inventory on some things. Just my guess. I would assume that once they get more inventory in, if they do, the price will go back to normal.
