Backpacker Magazine: How to do Everything

Friday, February 6, 2009

Backpacker Magazine recently published on their website an in-depth primer on "How to do Everything" from their November issue.

This is an excellent read for all you newby hikers and campers out there, and is a good refresher course for experienced hikers as well. This comprehensive guide is packed with the backcountry secrets that separate average campers from true wilderness experts.

The guide is divided into six main categories: hiking, packing and planning, camping, gear, first aid, and cooking. Each main category is then broken-down into multiple sections. For example: hikers can learn how to:

* Navigate Off-Trail
* Stay Dry in a Downpour
* Descend Safely, Beat Fatigue on Steep Climbs
* Read a Rattlesnake's Body Language
* Predict Weather With an Altimeter
* Identify a Mountain Lion Track
* 5 Ways to Navigate Without a Compass
* 4 Ways to Prevent Blisters
* Lace Your Boots for Maximum Comfort
* Take a Perfect Summit Photo

Just visit the store page, go to books, and then go to hiking books. Backpacker Mag should be at the top of page 4.
