Quark Expeditions, one of the top adventure travel companies offering access to the Arctic and Antarctic, is currently holding a contest in which the grand prize is a trip for two to Antarctica next year. The excursion is valued at more than $20,000!
All you have to do is tell the world – in 300 words or less – why you should be the official blogger for the February 2010 Antarctic cruise. Quark Expeditions is looking for an adventurous spirit, a keen sense of observation, and the ability to write with style and imagination. No blogging experience is necessary.
The Official Quark Blogger will travel with a guest to Antarctica, aboard the Lyubov Orlova, and blog about their experience, chronicling the action, the emotion, and the drama as their polar adventure unfolds. You’ll have an opportunity to visit penguin rookeries, cruise in Zodiacs and hike glaciers.
The cruise will sail from February 20 to March 3, 2010.
The competition started on June 19, 2009 and the end date for all entries is noon September 30, 2009, EDT. A selected entrant will be chosen by public voting – one vote per valid email address. The entry that receives the highest number of votes, and meets all eligibility requirements, will be declared the winner.

sounds like fun. I'm entering. Please consider voting for me

I am also competing. I see this as a real opportunity for a writer, not for a scientist or someone whose political views may color the experience one way or another. Obviously this is an assignment for a naturalist, but ideally one who can convey what they’re experiencing in a way that interests others, and in a way that others can understand.
After all, Quark is trying to sell more trips to (essentially) tourists.
Check out my entry and vote for me here: http://bit.ly/3b6ve1
