Road closures in the Smoky Mountains

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

As a result of the strong storms that passed through the Smokies yesterday there are a few road closing you should be aware of:

• Newfound Gap Road (US-441) is closed due to ice and snow

• Greenbrier Road at the ranger station

• Wear Cove Road

• Cades Cove Loop Road is closed to all vehicular traffic (including bicycles) today, and a partial closure will be in place tomorrow due to hemlock woolly adelgid control operations. Hikers will still be allowed to walk the loop. As a side note, Sparks Lane is closed due to some small flooding issues as well.

Alexander Hughes, the new winter caretaker at the LeConte Lodge, is reporting some new snow and temps of 14 degrees on the mountain this morning! Looks like better weather is ahead for the Smokies. To keep up with the latest forecasts, please click here.
