The Kinda Long March: in which a team of Chinese men travel to the United States for the first time to hike the legendary Appalachian Trail — and find its manicured paths a little wimpy.
Outside Magazine has an excellent article in their March 2011 issue about six men from China who trekked across the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains (I assume last spring). Yang Xiao, the author, compares and contrasts the trail and the park to the fledgling sport of hiking in China, and provides a pretty unique and interesting perspective of the park, hiking in America, thru-hikers and tourists. It's a great read!

That was a great article on the Chinese hikers; enjoyed reading it.
Interesting perspective with a bit of mis-information. I must say as a local, I have absolutely no paranoia about drinking untreated mountain spring water while I am hiking (regardless of the official park advice). They did seem to get a tiny glimpse of the true spirit of the trail and that is hiker comaraderie!
